Success Story: Sally Stayed Strong to Help Others

At 65, Sally tackled the most difficult physical challenge of her life: A 25-mile hike to raise money for children’s cancer research – in honor of her grandson who passed away at age three. Like many women, Sally takes care of others in her family, including her husband who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease 10 years ago.

Aaron, Sally’s grandson, died in January 2013, when he was just three and a half years old, after battling neuroblastoma for two years.

“I decided to participate in the hike to honor Aaron,” Sally said. “He endured so much and he endured it so well.”

In addition to supporting Aaron’s parents while he was sick, Sally is also the primary caretaker for her husband, Bill, who has Alzheimer’s disease.

“My goal [after the diagnosis] was to make the most out of life and to not have Alzheimer’s define him,” explained Sally.
