Keeping your winter workout routine fun and fresh can be challenging. Whether you can exercise outdoors, have flexibility in your schedule, or want to break a sweat with friends or by yourself—sometimes you just have to play with the cards you’re dealt. And in this game, that’s literally what you have to do! This card game workout is a fantastic way to get your heart pumping—and a great activity in or outside the gym. So grab some pals or play it solitaire!

    • Optional: workout buddies

Card Game Workout Rules

If you have enough people for a “referee” (someone who doesn’t do the exercises, but wants to participate) they can flip the cards, announce what is played, and count the repetitions aloud. They also get to decide the infamous wild card amounts every time an Ace is dealt!

Challenge yourself to finish a certain number of cards before taking a break. You can always start small, and work your way up during future workouts. The ultimate goal: Play 13 cards, rest, and repeat to 52!

A few more things to remember:
  • Each Suit = a Certain Exercise
    • Hearts: High Kicks
    • Diamonds: Diamond Jumps
    • Spades: Squats
    • Clubs: Bicycle Crunches
  • Number on Card = Number of Repetitions
  • Face Cards:
    • Jack = 11 Jumping Jacks
    • Queen = 12 Quick Leaps
    • King = 13 Butt Kicks
  • No skipping cards once shuffled!
  • Ace = Wild (Referee chooses 1-20.)

Up the Ante

Shuffle those cards well! If two cards of the same value are drawn consecutively, the reps amount is doubled. Same goes for three or four similar card values drawn in a row.
