Being a member of Anytime Fitness has transformed every aspect of my life. I’ve been a member for 8+ months, lost almost 20% body fat, lost over 120lbs, quit smoking, quit drinking, quit caffeine, and STARTED LIVING. Every time I reflect on my past, and I can’t believe I’m still alive.
My family is all “bigger” and I kind of grew up with it. Now that I’ve changed, I completely understand how I got fat. There’s a mentality in my family to almost joke about being fat, or getting fat. It started as everyone giving each other a hard time for letting go, but turned into almost family tradition to joke about how unhealthy we became. When I’m with my family now, I may be the boring sober one, but I’m the healthiest one. I try to put an end to that kind of mentality.
Joining a Gym
I joined Anytime Fitness with the intention of giving weight loss another shot, not knowing what would actually happen. I’ll never forget my first workout. It was with a personal trainer, Brent Neevel, who I still am in touch with. I’ll never forget, he had me doing step-ups on a bench, which was about a foot off the ground, and I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t complete a mile in less than 14 minutes. And a single push-up was a joke.
Now I like doing handstands, squats, and pull-ups. I bought a weighted vest, put on 45lbs, and have been doing weighted push-ups and cardio on the stair master with it. I love doing calisthenics and functional exercise. I began playing hockey and have been training for a league that plays throughout the Midwest. It’s amazing the things I can do now.
Changing Up the Diet
I started with a juicing diet, then began adding in clean protein. I learned to love eating fish and veggies. I couldn’t go through my day without vegetable juice. Once I hit my weight goal, I switched to a high calorie diet. I was focused on trying to be most efficient with what I put in my mouth. Even timing of what I ate mattered! I believe adapting your lifestyle is 10,000% more important than adapting your diet. Some of my favorite snacks are:
- 100% veggie juice
- Raw cashews
How to Make the Change
Stop thinking about it. The cost of money to do it, is nothing compared to the hospital bills you’ll pay if you DON’T do it. If you’re at a stage where you SERIOUSLY need to make a change, you can’t do it unless you’re willing to lose everything. Once you hit that point, then it starts.
Everything has changed. I am more focused, more productive, more energetic, and I have more opportunities. Not to mention, I can run faster, jump higher, and lift heavier than I ever thought I could!
