The Best Snacks for Healthy Binge-Watching

Couple Watching TV with popcorn

Sure, there are more productive ways to spend time than binge-watching five episodes of “House of Cards” in one afternoon, but unlimited access to an entire season and the lure of Kevin Spacey is incredibly strong, and sometimes you just need a little (or a lot!) R&R. That’s OK. Where we get ourselves into big trouble is when our binging habits extend beyond the TV to our waistlines.

If you tend to fall victim to mindless overeating when watching TV, it’s time to start setting yourself up for success by munching on healthy whole foods. Whether you’re a sweet tooth, salty fiend, or savory lover, we have healthy snack options (and a few tips) for your next binge-watching session that won’t leave you looking or feeling like a complete couch potato.

Cheat Sheet: Keys to Successful Snacking

  1. Select snacks that are nutrient dense, or good sources of nutrients without a lot of calories.
  2. Consider a snack’s satiating ability (it’s ability to fill you up). High fiber and protein rich foods will make you feel fuller faster and sustain you longer.
  3. Ditch eating directly from the bag and serve yourself a single portion.
