Sergeant Liz Hunt always worked hard to be “fit for the fight” during her 14 years in the United States Air Force. It was during that time, deployed overseas and supporting the physical fitness of her fellow Airmen—in addition to her core security duties—that she solidified her love for helping others.
Fast-forward to today: Liz is now retired from service, living in Dothan, Alabama, near Fort Rucker Air Force base with her husband, Major Corey Hunt, still active in the military. Service is still very much top of mind.
That led Anytime Fitness “Operation HeartFirst” partner Tee It up for the Troops™, a national non-profit organization, to select Liz as this year’s third annual award winner, setting Liz up to own her very own gym that could help her community get healthier while also employing fellow veterans. When it came to selecting this year’s winner, they found no one better suited to take on the responsibility than Liz.
“I’m a protector of the people. I will continue to be a protector of the people, just in a different capacity this time.” -Liz Hunt
With the support of Anytime Fitness and many of its franchisees, who donate part of their monthly profits, Tee It Up for the Troops™ offers a $125,000 grant and a $125,000 loan to an honorably discharged veteran each year for the purpose of assisting with initial start-up capital to be used for the development of an Anytime Fitness franchise. Veterans must apply to be considered.
Liz’s journey to this place, and this opportunity, was practically written in the stars. Here is her story.
The Hunts were introduced at Anytime Fitness headquarters in August (shown above), and at the 2017 Anytime Fitness conference in Palm Spring in September. They’re now working to open their gym. We are proud of all they have accomplished so far, and thrilled to welcome them to the Anytime Fitness family!
Thank you to all military and their families.
