Whether you’re a runner, biker, or just an outdoor enthusiast, we’ve compiled a list of the best themed adventure races happening nationwide this year! Don’t miss out on the opportunity to get active and wear eccentric costumes in 2014!
Raleigh, North Carolina
To complete the Krispie Kreme Challenge, run 2.5 miles to the Krispie Kreme, consume 12 doughnuts, and then 2.5 more miles to the finish. Sound enjoyable? Maybe to those who really, really like doughnuts and really, really like running. You may also participate in this event as a casual runner where consumption of 12 doughnuts is not required, but where’s the fun in that?
As the brightest event of all the themed races, the Firefly Run takes place at night with you, the runner, outfitted in your Christmas tree’s finest lights. Costumes are essential in this 5k race, particularly the reflective, glow-in-the-dark ones!
3. Warrior Dash
It’s the world’s largest obstacle race series. The mission: get active and dirty. This race is sure to leave you feeling empowered and in need of a good shower.
Need a reason to go to Hawaii? Here’s a fun filled, charity run you do in your undies! Sounds like a blast, right? Plus, it’s a great course for beginners: only 1.2 miles total. Just don’t forget to schedule that Brazilian.
Gold chains, big hair, polyester, and silk make the best workout clothes – at least for this event. Swim, bike, and run back in time at the Disco X-50 Tri. You’re guaranteed to finish feeling groovy.
Strap on some snowshoes for a scenic 3k race around the iconic Madison Capitol. Both individuals and relay teams are welcome in this event. Spectating may also prove entertaining as snowshoes aren’t the easiest things to walk in, let alone run!
Looking to PR in your next race? Nothing will make you run faster than when you’re being chased by bulls. Yes, that’s right — real bulls. It gives “running for your life” a whole new meaning!
