Today we are going to make ice cream healthy! Wait, is that even possible?
That’s what I wondered when one of my favorite bloggers, Ashley from Edible Perspective, posted a recipe for Banana Soft Serve. It wasn’t until I made it myself that I fell in love with this ice cream alternative!
The Secret to Healthier Ice Cream
Frozen bananas are the key ingredient to this recipe. That, plus a splash of milk, and your favorite flavor add-ins, are all you need. I’ve tried a plethora of variations: peanut butter, honey, almond, cinnamon, chocolate chips, protein, and berry. But my all-time favorite version is good ol’ chocolate.
Consisting of only cocoa powder, frozen bananas, and a splash of almond milk, this recipe will have you coming back for seconds! There are no added sugars, no refined grains, AND it’s 100% good-for-you. Just be mindful of your toppings — I added 1 tablespoon of mini dark chocolate chips and it was more than enough to satisfy my chocolate craving!
Banana Chocolate Soft-Serve Ice Cream
Makes: 1 serving
- 1 frozen banana, diced
- 2 to 3 tablespoons milk (I use unsweetened almond milk)
- 2 to 3 tablespoons cocoa powder (depending on how chocolatey you like it..I used 3)
- Optional: 1 tablespoon mini dark chocolate chips
Place all ingredients into a small food processor and mix until the bananas are fluffy. It took me about 1 minute total. I stopped one or two times to scrape the sides.
