Iron Man 3: The Workout

In the highly anticipated Iron Man 3, Tony Stark is faced with a very important question: Is he in control of his own destiny or has it been chosen for him? For some of us, this is an ongoing question we can easily relate to. So here’s your chance for a little workout retribution!

To build yourself up, sometimes you must break yourself down. Often, we discover the most about ourselves when our true mental grit is pushed beyond its comfort zone and into the realm of do or die. And around every corner there are fierce obstacles and opponents that know no mercy. But in the end, it comes down to one simple question:

Does the suit make the man or does the man make the suit?

Iron Man 3 Workout

Equipment: Dumbbells ranging 5lbs-15lbs (weight will vary between exercises for strength levels) and a Stability Ball.

Instructions: Do a complete tabata circuit (20 seconds per exercise, 10 seconds rest) for each exercise with 30-60 seconds of rest between rounds.

Duration: Approximately 30 minutes

The Exercises

Justin Hammer Holds: Standing upright, hold 2 dumbbells fully extended in front of your body, with your palms facing each other at shoulder height and HOLD. Feel the burn.

War Machines: Dumbbells in hand, do a burpee with a shoulder press, using the dumbbells as handles when you drop down.

Doctor Doom Diggers: Stand in a wide squat so that the dumbbells are hanging between your legs. As you return to standing postion, lift the dumbbell out in front of you, keeping your arms fully extended. Bring the dumbbells back down to your waist and repeat in one fluid motion!

Controller Rollers: Holding the dumbbells as handles, complete a jack-knife with your feet on a stability ball.

Pepper Punchers: Holding the dumbbells in a lowered squat, make a punching motion in front of you, alternating dumbbells as fast you can, while maintaining control.

Mandarin Mountain Climbers: Start your mountain climbers and add a push-up after every 4 knee drives.

Bonus Points: Complete a 1-Minute Pepper Plank to finish off your workout.

By powering through to the end, you’ll find that you indeed have the power source. It’s in your chest.
