Major League Fitness: The Spring Training Workout

If I could be anywhere in the world right now, I’d be in Fort Myers, Florida watching the Twins in spring training. With baseball season around the corner, it’s a great opportunity to follow the lead of MLB teams and get in shape! Get excited to work out with some fun exercises inspired by legendary baseball players!

Go through this circuit once for a single, twice for a double, three for a triple, and four times for a home run workout!

  • High Knee Step-Ups or “Puck Tucks”)
    Step-up onto a bench and lift a tucked in knee towards your chest and to get ready for game day like the legendary Kirby Puckett.
  • Sprints or “Reyes Runs”
    Do your best impression of speedster Jose Reyes. Start off with a light jog, then sprint as fast as you can, counting down from 49 steps.
  • 7 Reps of 7 Squats or “Crouching Mauer Squats”
    Get ready to assume the position like Joe Mauer behind the plate with these strength-building squat variations.

  • 6 Diamond Push-Ups or “Oliva One-Ups”
    Did I mention that I’m a Twins fan? This one is in honor of Hall of Famer Tony Oliva. Create a baseball diamond shape with your fingers and do 6 tricep push-ups!
  • 90 Seconds of Mountain Climbers or “Home to First Base”
    Pretend you’re trying to beat out a single to first while doing mountain climbers. Pump those legs as fast as possible!
  • 60 Second Plank
    Instead of riding the bench, use your time to work on that core. That’s where all the power comes from.
