The Top 3 Resolution Killers and How to Beat Them

I find the month of February being a tad on the bittersweet side. On one hand, the crowds are starting to die down and I no longer feel like Moses parting the red sea to get to a machine. On the other hand, that means after 30 short days, the majority of inspired lifestyle changers gave up before they really gave themselves a chance. If you are one of those people who has pretty much thrown in the towel, I want to tell you it’s not too late.

It’s time to give yourself a clean slate and get fired up about actually doing it this time! Why be ashamed for the next 11 months only to do the same roller coaster next year?

Today, we break the cycle.

Resolution Killer #3: “I have too much going on.”

Life has a way of hurling everything its got at you, and will never stop. Ever. I mean it. So now that we are on the same page, you know life will be unrelenting, you no longer have a valid excuse. The fact that you aren’t making good on your promise to yourself, is merely an easy way out of hard work.

Yeah, I said it.

If it were easy, it wouldn’t be special, and everyone would do it. That’s why you get the results people don’t get by doing the work people don’t do.

True success isn’t measured by how flawlessly you attain a goal, but by how you respond when you get knocked off the jousting horse.

You can fit health into your life, for some, it just takes a little extra planning. And deep down, you know it’s worth it.

Resolution Killer #2: “I’m more miserable than before I made my resolution.”

If you’ve ever found yourself having this thought process, then I can tell you exactly why. You’re an edgy puzzle piece trying to fit somewhere in the middle of the mold, and to force a fit can be miserable!

What I mean is: explore! There isn’t a “one-size-fits-all” when going on a health and wellness journey, so to do what you think you’re “supposed” to and not branch out and try as much as you can, is robbing yourself of potentially finding something you enjoy!

  • Don’t like running? Try trail hiking. Or spin. Or Zumba. Shoot, try speed walking!
  • Don’t like the traditional boot camp? Try yoga. Or a balance class. Or Zumba (I love Zumba). Or gymnastics. Or ram-emulating-rock-climbing.

Dance walking. Hula hooping. Unicycling. Choreographed jump rope. Powerlifting. Baton twirling.

There is something for everyone. You just have to try it.

Resolution Killer #1: “Who am I kidding, I’ll never be fit”

If you’ve ever felt like your goals are unattainable, then maybe you should re-evaluate your goals. It’s not all about looking like a magazine cover or being worthy of a billboard.

What about…

  • getting off some medications?
  • waking up with energy and motivation?
  • keeping up with your kids?
  • tying your shoes without holding your breathe?
  • going up a flight of stairs and not getting winded?
  • loving yourself enough to love others?

If you’re able to focus on the big picture of taking care of yourself for non-superficial reasons, then the cherry on top will be the aesthetics will all fall into place! If you fight through the tough times and grasp onto making this a lifestyle change rather than going for a “quick fix” then, by default, you will achieve what you need. Weight loss, more strength, better endurance, increased flexibility and energy. Whatever you need, it will happen.

You can’t build a house without a solid foundation. Too many people start out wanting a mansion out of a duplex. You’ll get that penthouse, don’t worry! You just have to want it more than anything because anything can stop you.

Don’t let YOU stop you.
