7-Minute Fall Skincare Routine

As fall rolls in (and it has been rolling in here in Minnesota), I can’t help but notice how dry my skin is. I usually have an oily complexion, but now I catch myself reaching for my moisturizer during the day. Creating a structured skin regimen is crucial in order to keep your skin looking healthy this fall. Here’s how to get a smooth, healthy fall complexion in just 7- minutes per day! Let’s get started!

Face (4 Minutes)

First, start out by cleansing your face with your favorite facial cleanser. I usually do this in the shower to save time. To keep your face looking and feeling flawless, you’ll want to cleanse both morning and night.

Next, use your favorite toner (this one is mine) to return your face to a regular pH. This action will give your skin a nice glow and it keeps those little pesky microorganisms at bay! Bottom line- just use it.

Depending on your skin, you should follow up the toning process with a nourishing face cream or moisturizer. This is especially important during the fall and winter months because the air is much drier. A good moisturizer will help even out your skin tone, keeping your face from feeling “cracky” (my technical term), and protect it from the sun.

Optional: Spot- Treatment

At least twice a week, use a 2 percent salicylic acid treatment to remove debris from pores.

Optional: Eye Cream

Refresh your eyes by adding some eye cream to bring the moisture back to the surface. Unfortunately, our eyes don’t have a lot of oil glands in them so they dry out rather quickly.

Body (3 Minutes)

Body Scrub

At least twice a week, use a salt or sugar scrub to remove any dead skin. This will keep your skin healthy.

“Healthy skin renews itself every 14 to 30 days,” says Erin Gilbert, M.D., Ph.D., of Gramercy Park Dermatology in New York.

I used to hate lotion because it left my skin feeling greasy and shiny. However, in the fall and winter months, patches of dryness will develop on your skin if you do not keep it hydrated. Lotion is my method for moisturizing. After I shower, I only half towel dry and then I lather my body with lotion while my skin is partially wet. This will lock in moisture and keep your skin smooth throughout the day. Pro Tip: Keep your lotion in the shower for quick application!
