Welcome to summer, friends! Are you frying in the heat yet? My family has already gone through five bottles of sunscreen so far this year. We all know it’s important to keep our skin protected, but what if you aren’t too keen on slathering bottle after bottle of sunscreen head-to-toe every time you go outside? Luckily, a lot of fitness companies are catching on and actually making gear that protects you from the sun. If you are fair-skinned or burn easily, you know that “regular” clothes don’t always do the trick. Here are a few of my favorite sun-blocking workout tops for women that’ll keep you stylish and protected. Don’t forget you still need to cover your exposed skin with your favorite sunscreen.
Under Armour Rib Tank ($22.99)
This classic ribbed tank is so versatile that you can wear it out on the trails or to the neighbor’s cookout. It comes in five colors (but more are available during different seasons) and has four-way stretch to keep you comfy and unrestricted during your sweat session. This tank has a Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) of 30+ and is made of lightweight material to keep you cool and protected during the summer heat.
REI Fleet T-Shirt ($29.50)
Looking for a shirt that keeps you comfortable, protected and visible? This is the shirt for you. Not only does it provide UPF 50+ protection in a lightweight, wicking shirt, but it is also slightly reflective. Wear this tee when you are headed out for a late evening bike ride or run to stay visible to oncoming cars while you avoid the heat of the day. This tee comes in four, floral print colors. Also look for the tank top made from the same material, also from REI.
Under Armour Coldblack Training T-Shirt ($34.99)
This may look like a run-of-the-mill t-shirt, but it has a lot of amazing hidden features that make it worth the extra price. It’s packed with a UPF rating of 30+, special technology that helps reflect heat, anti-odor technology to keep you smelling fine and a droptail hemline in the back for added modesty. Pick it up in one of the lighter colors (it’s available in seven different colors) to really get the full benefit this sun-repelling workout top.
Athleta Equator Tank ($59.00)
This tank has a UPF of 50+ and comes in a wide variety of colors, sizes and torso lengths. The back detail adds a bit of cute to this otherwise utilitarian top. Unlike a lot of workout tanks, this one is designed to be a longer length and hit below the beltline.
Lululemon Sun Sprinter Short Sleeve ($68.00)
While on the pricey side, this tee is high-quality and packed full of features. It’s one of the lightest weight fabrics on the list, but provides a UPF rating of 50+. This top has stylish and functional mesh panels under the arms and along the back to provide air circulation. The neckline is high in both the front and back, protecting those often-overexposed areas from the sun. This shirt also has a nifty little pocket in the back—perfectly sized for holding a key, some cash or a packet or two of fitness fuel.
