A Farmer’s Market Scavenger Hunt

I love going to the farmer’s market. Not only is it a great way to get local, organic food at a great price directly from the producer, but I also think it’s just plain ole fun. I love spending Saturday morning pursuing aisle after aisle of bright, beautiful produce. But even with my love of the market, sometimes I’ll get stuck in a rut. I find myself in a rush to get my errands done so I bust into the market and quickly hit up my favorite vendors for the items on my list and get out of there as quickly as possible.

In an attempt to slow down and enjoy the bounty of the season a bit more, I created a little market scavenger hunt that I like to do.

It may sound silly, but following a fun list like this gives me a chance to see the market from a new angle. I’m sure families with kids would have fun doing this too. It’d be a great way to teach kids about the amazingness of the farmer’s market and healthy eating.

You don’t have to buy all the things on the list, but it’s a fun bonus if you can. If you’d prefer, you can just check the items off, jot down a note of what you found, or snap a photo. If you’d like, you can even do it as a competition! The winner gets to buy one of the items from the hunt.

Next time the market comes to your town, try to step out of shopping mode and really enjoy your farmer’s market. Happy hunting, friends!

  • Find a fruit or veggie you’ve never tried before.
  • Find a purple fruit or vegetable.
  • Find a vendor selling bouquets of flowers.
  • Ask a farmer: What’s your favorite vegetable?
  • Find someone selling goat products (milk, cheese, yogurt).
  • Find something that is sold in a jar (syrup, honey, jam, etc.).
  • Find a farmer from a town you’ve never heard of.
  • Try a free sample.

  • Find the biggest veggie in the market.
  • Find someone wearing overalls.
  • Find something that grows underground.

P.S. Here is a printable Google Doc of the scavenger hunt so you can take it along with you to the market.
