Operation: Ignore Girl Scout Cookies

Today, I walked by Girl Scout cookies…and did a quick double take. They were out in the open for anyone to take but after thinking for just a moment, I just kept walking. Are you kidding me? I just walked past one of my favorite cookies.

That wouldn’t have happened a year ago. I would have grabbed 2 (at least) and enjoyed them without thinking at all. That is the problem. It’s those little office and car snacks we indulge in without a second thought can really add up.

I hate math, but I will do it anyway (for you– because I like you so much!). If you grab 3 pieces of fun size candy randomly throughout the day at work, you are looking at 150 calories in just ‘grab on-the-go’ snacks. Most Americans take in 300 excess calories a day.

So with those 300 extra calories and little activity, we are looking at a definite weight gain. And from looking at our country’s overweight and obesity numbers it’s obvious that we are packing on the pounds.

Here’s something to consider. Instead of grabbing that cookie or piece of candy, take two seconds stop and think, “Do I really need that?” “Am I really hungry?”

If you are hungry, go back to your office and grab some carrots or an apple.

What do you mean you don’t have those in your office? Well, go grab your keys and drive to the supermarket to buy some healthy snacks.

If you aren’t hungry, that’s wonderful! Get back on task and make your company some money!

Remember: stop and think before you snack, and keep a healthier alternative close at hand!
