Weight of the Union 2.0

Last night, the President gave his State of the Union address to members of Congress and the general citizenry to report that our nation is moving in the right direction. President Obama also charted a plan for our country moving forward when it concerns foreign policy, the home crisis, unemployment, and higher education. But today we want to address what the President didn’t mention in his speech to the union. We want to discuss our nation’s biggest health concern: obesity. We are offering its own barometer for measuring progress — the second annual report called the “Weight of the Union.”

Throughout 2011, data was gathered to capture the fitness and nutritional habits of Anytime Fitness and the 1.3 million members — and for the most part, the results are encouraging.

Here is just a sampling of what the report revealed (the entire report is below):

  • Over 1/3 of the U.S. is obese! And 2/3 are overweight.

  • 24 hour accessibility enabled members to workout over 1.2 million times between the hours of midnight and 4 a.m.

  • $4,000,000 was distributed to Anytime Fitness members over the course of 2011 via insurance reimbursement which is up 33% from 2010!

  • Anytime Health’s tracking capability, expert advice, and community support helped members lose over 200,000 pounds, up 45% from 2010!

This report is a reminder that we still have a lot of work to do, but Anytime Fitness is helping move the country in the right direction. And there is no doubt that the state of Anytime Fitness and Anytime Health is strong!
